Improves Air Conditioning Efficiency With Heat Exchanger

Boosting air conditioning efficiency is simple: Just enlarge the heat exchangers. Unfortunately, most residential condensers and evaporators are already too big.

By using a new heat exchanger design, however, engineers say they can achieve greater efficiency without adding more bulk.

The new tube and fin arrangement uses flat aluminum tubes linked to aluminum fin metals. Each tube contains a series of micro-channel clips for coolers. Due to the shape, small size and low internal size of the corridors, the pipes provide greater heat exchange efficiency than conventional pipes.

2. Horizontal air handlers

3. Freezers

Additional heat exchange efficiency is provided by the metal bonding of the tubes to the fins. The cladding, which melts below aluminum fins, actually flows into the connections between the fins and the pipes during manufacturing. After it cools down, the cladding provides a link-type welding strip. In contrast, circular tube fin heat exchangers (RTPF) use a mechanical process to press the tubes and fins together. The use of a metal coupling, rather than mechanical installation, provides a greater connection between the tube and fins, and thus is a more efficient path for heat removal.

The smaller internal volume of the new heat exchanger in one application also allows 84 ounces of refrigerant in a 2.5-ton air-conditioning system, compared to 130 ounces of refrigerant in a conventional 2.5-ton system. The effective surface area of the pipes, in addition to the manufacturing method described above and the low height of the fins, also improve the de-humidification properties.

The system is called the PFV evaporator, and the system uses a heat exchanger bent and a V-shaped machined.

When working as an evaporator, PFV provides greater thermal efficiency and better moisture removal than conventional units, while being installed within the limits of a conventional oven. As a condenser in the heat pump application, it provides higher efficiency without adding the bulk to the internal heat exchanger.
